We didn't just build another to-do app. We studied the research, consulted productivity experts, and integrated proven methodologies into a cohesive system.
The Eisenhower Matrix
Named after President Dwight D. Eisenhower, this framework helps you decide what to work on by categorizing tasks across two dimensions: urgency and importance.
The key insight: What is important is seldom urgent, and what is urgent is seldom important. Most people spend too much time on urgent but unimportant tasks (Q3), when they should focus on important but not urgent tasks (Q2) that drive long-term success.
In Leo, every task you create is automatically categorized into a quadrant. The app gently nudges you to spend more time in Q2 and less in Q3/Q4.

Time Blocking
Time blocking is the practice of planning every moment of your day in advance, assigning specific tasks to specific time blocks rather than working from a never-ending to-do list.
Why it works: When you give every task a home on your calendar, you're more realistic about what you can actually accomplish. It also reduces decision fatigue - you don't have to constantly decide what to work on next.
Leo divides your day into four natural energy blocks (Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night) and helps you assign tasks to the block that matches your energy levels for that type of work.

The Pomodoro Technique
Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, this technique uses a timer to break work into intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) separated by short breaks.
The science: Our brains weren't designed for sustained focus. Regular breaks help maintain consistent performance over time, while the time constraint creates a productive sense of urgency.
Leo's Focus Mode implements this perfectly: 25-minute work sprints, 5-minute breaks, and a longer 15-minute break every 4 sessions. During focus mode, you see only the current task - no distractions.

Gamification Psychology
Gamification isn't about making work feel like a game - it's about leveraging the psychological principles that make games engaging to drive real behavior change.
Key principles we use:
- Variable rewards (point values vary by task type)
- Progress indicators (streaks, completion percentages)
- Achievement unlocking (badges for milestones)
- Loss aversion (streak protection)
- Social proof (family/team leaderboards)
Importantly, we've designed the system so that Q2 tasks (important but not urgent) give the most points - subtly training you to prioritize what truly matters.
